What You Will Find in Our Help Section
The Mountain Air compares online casinos and jackpot games, and this section explains the mechanics behind the offers you see on our lists. Each guide answers the questions players ask most often, and wherever it quotes a casino, the figure comes from that casino’s own terms and we say where. If two documents from the same casino disagree, we say which says what rather than picking the friendlier number.
Nothing here is a tip on how to win. Gambling is entertainment, not a way to make money: the house keeps an edge on every game, and no strategy, bonus or timing changes that. The guides are here so you can see the real cost of an offer, avoid surprises at the cashier and know where to turn if gambling stops being fun.
Our Guides
Wagering Requirements Explained
Wagering decides whether a bonus is worth having, and the headline multiplier tells only part of the story. Our guide shows the difference between wagering on the bonus alone and on the deposit plus the bonus, then works through real offers in pounds. Put in £100 for a £100 matched bonus: at 35x the bonus you face £3,500 of stakes, at 35x deposit plus bonus the figure doubles to £7,000. It also covers game weighting, maximum bets, expiry, cash-out caps and the deposit turnover rules that apply even without a bonus. Read wagering requirements explained with worked examples.
Gambling Addiction and Recovery
When gambling takes more money, time or headspace than you intended, start here. The guide covers the warning signs, a set of honest self-check questions, practical first moves and the free services that can help, with a section for partners and family. It carries no casino offers. Read our guide to gambling addiction help and recovery.
Deposit limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion at a casino work best when you set them up before you need them. Our responsible gambling page explains what each tool does, when it helps and how to block gambling payments through your bank. See responsible gambling tools and limits.
How Progressive Jackpots Work
Every qualifying stake feeds a small slice into a progressive prize pool, which keeps climbing until it is won and then drops back to its seed amount. Our guide separates standalone, in-house, network and must-drop jackpots, explains why a high meter does not bring a win any nearer, and sets out who runs which system: NetEnt for Mega Fortune and Divine Fortune, Games Global for Mega Moolah and WowPot, Relax Gaming for Dream Drop, Red Tiger for Daily Drop and Pragmatic Play for Drops & Wins. Start with how progressive jackpots work.
Casino Welcome Bonuses Compared
Welcome packages are often spread over three, four or more deposits, each step with its own match, cap, minimum deposit and wagering. Our comparison lays the steps out side by side and flags the terms that change the value most, such as a short time limit or a low cash-out cap. Compare offers in our casino welcome bonus guide.
Fast Withdrawals and Verification
Processing time and arrival time are not the same thing. Crystalroll’s general terms, for example, give the casino up to 72 hours for processing, and once the money is released, how long it takes to reach you depends on the payment method. Our fast withdrawal guide explains pending periods, verification and the deposit turnover rules that can hold up a cash-out, and ranks casinos by the processing times they publish. See our fast withdrawal casinos.
Quick Glossary of Casino Terms
| Term | What it means | What to check |
|---|
| Wagering (playthrough) | How much you have to stake in total before a bonus, or what it wins, turns into withdrawable cash: the multiplier times either the bonus alone or the deposit and bonus combined | Which basis applies, the time limit and which games count |
| Game weighting | The share of each bet that counts towards wagering, such as 100% for slots and far less, often 10% or under, for live and table games | The contribution table in the bonus terms |
| Max bet | The largest stake allowed while a bonus is active, often £5 per spin; going over it can void the bonus and its winnings | Whether buying a feature or using a gamble option counts at its full price |
| Max cash-out | A ceiling on what you can take out from bonus play, for example 5x the bonus amount | The cap for the bonus and, separately, for free-spin winnings |
| Deposit turnover | A rule that you must stake each deposit, bonus or not, one or more times before cashing it out | The multiple (often 1x or 3x) and any fee for withdrawing early |
| RTP (return to player) | The long-run percentage of stakes a game returns as winnings, measured across millions of rounds; it predicts nothing about one session | The game’s information screen, since some games are offered in more than one version |
| Volatility | How a game spreads its returns: low volatility pays smaller wins more often, high volatility pays less often but larger amounts | The studio’s description or the game’s information screen |
| KYC (Know Your Customer) | Identity, address and payment checks a casino carries out, usually before your first withdrawal | Which documents are needed, and whether you can verify before you play |
| Cashback | A percentage of net losses returned to you, either as cash or as bonus money with its own wagering | The wagering on the cashback (0x, 1x or more) and the cap |
| Sticky bonus | Bonus money you can stake but never cash out; it is taken off your balance when you withdraw | How the terms treat your balance at the moment you withdraw |
| Must-drop jackpot | A jackpot set to pay out before a fixed time or before it reaches a set amount; Red Tiger’s Daily Drop is one example | The drop deadline or cap shown on the game |
| Progressive jackpot | A pot fed by a slice of each qualifying stake, which climbs until someone wins it and then restarts from a seed | Whether the pool is local to one casino or shared across a network |
Five Checks Before Your First Deposit
- Limits come first. Pick a sum you could lose without it hurting and a cut-off time for the session, then put a deposit limit on the account before any money goes in.
- Read the bonus terms or skip the bonus. Find the multiplier, the basis, the time limit and the maximum bet. If the total betting does not fit your budget, play without it.
- Verify early. Upload identity and address documents as soon as the casino lets you, so verification does not hold up your first withdrawal.
- Check the withdrawal rules. Look for the minimum withdrawal, the processing time and any deposit turnover rule.
- Keep a record. Save the terms you accepted and note each deposit, so you always know where you stand.
How We Write and Check These Guides
Every casino figure in these guides comes from that casino’s own published terms, promotions pages or help centre, checked on the date shown. Limits, wagering and processing times are given in the casino’s own published form, conditions included. We do not quote jackpot amounts, record wins or payout percentages for named jackpot games, and we never suggest that a jackpot is due. Where a figure is not published, we say so. Our review methodology and scoring page explains the rest. If you spot something out of date, please tell us through our contact page and we will check it.
This hub carries no casino offers. Elsewhere on The Mountain Air, joining a casino through one of our links can earn us a commission, but that money never influences the marks we give a casino or how we order a list; the offer you actually get is decided by the casino’s own terms.
